Starting from 28th June 2025, the Accessibility Act (BFSG) will come into effect. Companies that fail to make their websites accessible risk warnings, fines, and exclusion from public contracts. However, accessibility is more than just a legal obligation – it enhances the user experience for everyone and brings tangible benefits:
The Accessibility Act (BFSG) implements the EU Directive 2016/2102 and requires companies to make their digital offerings accessible to everyone. The goal is to ensure unrestricted access to online services for all individuals.
Small companies with fewer than ten employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet total of no more than 2 million euros are exempt from the requirements, unless they place products on the market.
The technical requirements are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, which establish four principles:
Accessibility not only improves the experience for people with disabilities but also makes websites more accessible to everyone – including older individuals, mobile users, and those with temporary impairments (e.g., following an injury).
1Analysis – We assess your website for barriers.
2Design & Implementation – Optimisation according to WCAG 2.1 or an entirely new accessible design.
3Testing & Refinement – Usability testing & adjustments.
4Maintenance & Updates – Ongoing assurance of accessibility.
